About the Festival

Hello Film Festival Fans,

Our second festival brings together some incredibly diverse documentary fare, from CON MAN, the thrilling true story about an ivy league imposter who fabricated a spectacular series of identities for himself and successfully conned his way into Princeton University, to THE EDUCATION OF SHELBY KNOX, an exceptionally timely and intimate look at the culture wars from the perspective of a precocious 15-year-old girl. Following a successful limited theatrical run, THE LADY IN QUESTION IS CHARLES BUSCH offers a wildly entertaining look at the life of renowned and outrageous drag artist Charles Busch. Changing gears, veteran Docurama filmmaker Nina Davenport (Always a Bridesmaid) presents an emotionally engaging film with an affectionate twist about her post-9/11 journey across America in PARALLEL LINES. And in PASSIN' IT ON, a true documentary classic about the Black Panther movement, veteran filmmaker John Valadez offers startling insight into the role the Party had on social change and further reveals the devious tactics the FBI used to convict one of the organization's most fervent leaders, Dhoruba Bin Wahad. Meanwhile, fresh off the international film festival circuit, five-time Emmy® award winner Paul Devlin brings us POWER TRIP, a real-life thriller which masterfully captures a comic clash of cultures that combusts as an American electrical company tries to convince the formerly Communist populace to pay for their electricity. For some slightly more light-hearted fare, you'll be sure to laugh out loud with THE SHVITZ, the hilarious cult classic that goes behind the bathhouse doors to explore the clubhouse atmosphere of the last American steam baths. And back by popular demand from Docurama Film Festival I, two-time Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Roger Weisberg (Aging Out) presents his provocative film WAGING A LIVING, an eye-opening look at the barriers the "working poor" must overcome to lift their families out of poverty.

Last but not least, we are showcasing two Docurama titles this month from our ever-expanding catalog of documentary standouts. Amidst the current firestorm over immigration in the U.S., we are putting a spotlight on the widely acclaimed FARMINGVILLE, a provocative, complex, and emotionally charged look at the ongoing nationwide controversy surrounding a suburban community, its ever-expanding population of illegal immigrants, and the shocking hate-based attempted murders of two Mexican day laborers. And just in time for its Broadway revival this November, the extraordinary documentary ORIGINAL CAST ALBUM: COMPANY from acclaimed filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker (Bob Dylan: Don't Look Back) captures the explosive 1970 recording session of Stephen Sondheim's landmark musical.
